International Museum Day (IMD) is held every year on 18 May, coordinated by the International Council of Museums (ICOM). The event highlights a specific theme that changes every year and the theme in 2015 is Museums for a sustainable society.On the morning of 17 May, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History launched Model Fossils by Pottery to echo with the theme, including 16 students who would make a dinosaur fossil by their own and also go to explore a biological history rarely known by people.
The museum staff first illustrated for students the information of the fossils about the origin, classification, formation and fossils around us. Students then investigated and studied the fossils to prepare for the next hand-making by their own. Four teams made up of four members in respect, with the help of professional staff, cooperated to use mixed gypsum powder, moulds,answered questions and received souvenirs in the course of gypsum drying.Finally,students succeeded obtaining their fruits, i.e. restored model fossils with great joy and excitement.
