With an extensive field study, our project designers chose exemplary sites to conduct researches on resources and phenology, collect materials, and rebuild vivid living environments by reshaping analog designs and making models of real objects. In this way, you can get authentic information and feel as if you were personally on the scene. Trees in the exhibition, whatever genuine or fake, are true to life, as some are produced in equal proportion and some are real objects made by scientific processing.
The essence of Zhejiang natural resources is embodied in this limited space.
Based upon abundant collections and professional academic researches, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History shows a real world of nature and life, to which former generations have devoted their efforts and wisdom.
Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is one of the few provincial-level museums in natural history in China and also one of the museums with a long history created by Chinese people. Its predecessor, the West Lake Museum, was born out of the first West Lake Exposition in 1929.
During the past 80 years, Zhejiang Museum of Natural History has played an active role in protecting natural heritage, popularizing science, conducting academic researches and promoting cultural exchange, and so forth.
The collections, covering extensive fields with rare gems, are concentrating on the essence of nature. There are fruitful academic research results, abundant and colorful educational displays, for instance, Display of Dinosaurs and Marine Animals won the Excellence of China’s Top Ten Exhibitions in 1998. Additionally, the Museum is actively participating in social and cultural construction and has established wide cooperative channels.
The new Museum, covering an area of 26,000 square meters, was officially opened to the public for free in July, 2009.
The new Museum’s debut is undoubtedly a significant leap and turning point in her development. The Museum then will fully develop her social functions and cultural responsibilities in the future. With great social support, it is bound to be a scientific educational base of nature and environment in China, a research center of natural history and biodiversity institute, an information base of natural resources and sustainable development in Zhejiang, and an important place to explore nature as well as to experience science.
Museum of Natural History sincerely hopes that every visitor will love nature, cherish life and protect our homeland from now on.
