2. Research Overview of ZMNH and Biodiversity
Zhejiang Museum of Natural History is one of the longest-history museums created by Chinese people alone, and also the unique provincial museum mainly focusing on collections, research and exhibitions on specimens of life and earth science. Its precursor is the West Lake Museum established on a basis of the West Lake Exposition in 1929. Since it was founded 70 years ago, the museum has attached importance on the collection, research and educational popularization of various biological specimens. There are more than 120,000 registered collections which are the essence of natural specimens in Zhejiang Province. Besides, there are publications of more than 40 treatises such as Fish of the West Lake, Dragonfly of Hangzhou City, Flora of China, Flora of Zhejiang Province, Fauna of Zhejiang Province; over 30 science books and 400 academic theses, and about 70 national, provincial and ministerial projects. All of these lay the foundation for the research on ecosystem diversity and biodiversity, achieve certain results and experience, and also produce a good effect in society.
